Divide And Conquer? How About A Little Unity Dear Leaders?

Is it just me or have we sunk so low politically that every event or news report is now seen as “which party won”. It is like the Jets perennially playing the Giants and the City of New York in constant turmoil over this cross town rivalry, yet it is never to end. A vicious no win circle. I dare go so far as to deem the current climate as a Civil War of words and the muskets are gathering dust thank God.

I also hope it is not only I but I certainly claim here and now I am at wits end with “identity politics”. Take offense if you must but I find the whole issue rather sordid, messy and very condescending. This is what our modern day buffoons…excuse me I mean leaders have brought us to.

I submit it was done intentionally and not for the benefit of the people but to the advantage of the charlatans who now reign over this great nation. Despicable if you ask me. Why so? Because look for yourselves at the results. We have likely never been this divided. We are seen as not one but countless special interest groups and all the politicians pander to each group with false promises of goodies for this group and that at the expense of some unnamed group. Sounds like prostitution to me. Maybe they need a class in leadership skills for they certainly lack same.

I am not sure what group I am in but when I see this daily and blatant pandering I feel bad for those on the receiving end. I know most people at any given speech are there to clap regardless of what is said yet in the back of my mind I am cringing with shame for all at this unbecoming behavior.

Possible GOP VP candidate Marco Rubio has gone so far as to name President Obama as the most divisive leader in our history. That is subject to debate and for another day and he is not far off the mark but he confirms my point.

And that is we are laden with politicians and leaders are in very short supply. Leaders do not engage in class warfare or gender politics. At least not my view of a leader. I view a leader as a unity inspiring soul that crosses all differences.
Hence what has made this nation Gods gift to the world has always been its so called melting pot ability. But the politicians don’t like us to melt together. They thrive like parasites on division and encourage it wholeheartedly.

Poll this group and that and tell them what they want to hear. Most unseemly and truth be told it sickens me to write on this topic. But this has been weighing on me for so long that I felt it needed voice.

Since you ask, yes I am Greek and if Michael Dukakis ever ran for anything I would not vote for him. I like to think I have my own identity. I do not believe in group think and do not vote in a group block either.

At the end of the day my friends, I wish us all the avoidance of the next Tower of Babel. Our non problem solving leaders would love that and are many floors ahead of me. Always remember friends “out of many, one”. United we stand. Do not let them win in their divisive strategy.

Mortgage Bailouts? Country Bailouts? Will They Work?

As we begin the third consecutive summer with financial turmoil in Greece as well as many European Nations it begs the question, how many bailouts are enough and will any of these actually arrive at a satisfactory conclusion? As one occupying a desk in the Mortgage Industry for many years and of course being on hand to witness innumerable “Bailouts” designed to protect homeowners I must admit that the people who have devised these programs know nothing of my industry and its intricacies. If they had, perhaps one of the many might have been viable but in the end all I smell is ineptitude squared.

As I have stated before they certainly could and should have called me for advice but then that would have made sense and we all know that would not blend well with politics as it is becoming apparent that politicians sole goal is not to cure a problem but to sustain them hence the need for their great wisdom. If you have detected my obvious sarcasm you no doubt can hear my laughter as well.

But in all seriousness and indeed these are to be treated as such and do require viable solutions as opposed to band aids which are prominently being used as we speak. After all I can use a bailout myself as most of us could. But is it really a solution? I can assure you it makes no economic sense. Yes it might help me today but at what cost tomorrow. And who pays the price? That is the key question. No leader seems to want to address that issue aside from vague notions of “the rich”. France is already finding out where that leads. Under the new Socialist Regime, the rich in cheese land are moving across the channel. Didn’t see that coming did you socialists. They never do witness New Jersey and California and the exodus occurring from this taxation. So no friends it is not a solution.

The only true and workable solution is to allow the market to clear the excess. But instead we have thrown some $12 trillion at the problem and we still have the problem. Fascinating no?

HARP 2 is designed to help the underwater property owner and it has merits however not based on market principles. Aside from the infighting taking place amongst the Government and Banks I see value there and we do have programs which will actually help people. The Banks are taking a big risk and demanding a modest premium in rate which is only fair but the regulators are fighting back as usual. At least we have a viable tool for the first time in 5 years and are able to offer up some form of relief.

We must distinguish however between the two types of bailouts. Europe is simply put an example of overspending and the U.S. is simply and example of a housing bubble inflated by easy money.

Both need healing and both require a different cure as do all cancer treatments require different cures. As a Socialist Union the Euros are heading in the wrong direction as one would expect. As a capitalist nation one would expect us to go in a different direction yet the forces of Socialism are sucking us in to their rats nest and I assure all that is not good.

As stated earlier it might be good today but the ramifications for your progeny are consistent with rampant child abuse. Not to mention highly immoral. Do we have the will to do what is right? I think we do and I pray our leaders grow the brass that is required as opposed to hiding under their respective desks and hurling cheap shots of blame towards each other.

After all that is not what a true leader or statesman would do. I suppose we need a few of those as well my friends. I will keep my eye on the white horse and someday a real leader may arrive. In the mean time we are clearing the excess and I envision a very prosperous finish to the year and next year will be just fine for you all. Or so I shall wish. So stop the bailouts and let us conduct business under our old fashioned rule of law which is how we have prospered since our birth.

The Honeymoon Is Over Mr. President, Is It Time to Talk Divorce?

A quick four years have now gone by the wayside. I recall telling my more liberal friends get ready for Carter II. As they were awash in “hope” the blinders were on but the thinking caps evidently were not. I asked what specific policy this candidate advocated? All I heard is “hope and change”. As I suggested again that this is not a policy, I was told he would unite the U.S and the world. Really?

Fast forward four years and even his most vocal sycophants in the worldwide media are turning on the poor chap. I mean for a Democrat to draw the ire of a Maureen Dowd let alone Dana Milbank from the Washington Post well then you know there is trouble in paradise. They are clearly dissatisfied with Mr. President. And who can blame them. He pays back his friends and parties with Hollywood celebs while Rome burns. I personally felt he was not ready for prime time and he has convinced me.

So how does the rest of the world view our leader. Recall his speech in Germany to hundreds of thousands of cheering fans. I heard it but took nothing away from it. Yet they cheered incessantly. Doubtless they did not understand what he was saying. So how do they feel today? Lets check in with Der Spiegel and their recent poll. They are none to pleased and how to blame them. The vacuous promises where not kept.

And of course the coup de grace, President Clinton is working over Obama pretty hard. No doubt this stems from jealousy at not having another four years on Air Force One or a sense of his betterness as opposed to the rookie. Who knows and who cares?

I care about the poor people who think with the heart as opposed to the head. They must listen carefully to these speeches. I have preached this endlessly and although my target today is a Democrat believe me I hold Republican leaders in equal contempt. In fact anyone who will not level with us after all the authority we give them is not worth the ink on this paper in my opinion.

So Bush is gone the world still hates us, unemployment is still high, we have added $15 trillion in government spending, ad nauseum and here we are about to see the dog and pony show again.

Truth be told I am tired of it from both sides. We need a true leader with stones to back him/her up. I tire of the lesser of two evils syndrome. Perhaps we should abolish both parties and start over. Hey that’s not bad. But the true power brokers would not allow that.

So keep the people Xanax’d out watching stupid reality vote shows and we will not see the treachery being done behind our very eyes. Leaks, cover ups, crony payoffs and sheer out and out bribery. As quoted decades past watching sausage made is an ugly thing just as is policy.

Mr. President I feel sad for you today. They are throwing you to the dogs and I don’t blame you, I knew what you brought to the table and I humbly disagree on that front. I blame them for portraying you as the second coming and a role no human could fill. At least you have had a lot of fun. You don’t deserve the media betrayal. But we all know how they love to knock down the mighty even after elevating you to such heights. How about a round of golf some day?

Why Such Weak Job Growth? Ask Your Power Hungry Bureaucrats!

Last Friday the jobs report released as was reported in the L.A.Times has emptied the steam out of our collective bubbles. The trajectory on job growth has been disappointing to say the least. But wait for it now as I have the simple solution…stop choking off our life blood Washington power mad types. Leave us free to do what we do best when left unhindered by all unknowing meddlers. Yes I mean deregulate across the board in a big way and now! Not tomorrow or after some silly election to fulfill a phony promise which neither gentlemen will keep.

Now before you “Occupy types” have a cow let me explain a few things. First off it was not deregulation that caused our most recent economic downturn. Believe me we have more than enough rules and regulations on the books already. I know it is easy to look at Wall St. and Banks and point a bloody finger at them. But it was indeed in Washington and under Washington rules that the easy money began which led to the excesses which we are now absorbing.

You can choose to not believe the facts if you like but you would have learned nothing in a bad bargain. The FREE MARKET did not cause the problem! Absolutely not! We really have only a limited free market in this country today and therein lies the problem.

But how to explain “Hope and Change” becoming the worst post recession era in our history. Again I posit a simple answer. 100,000+ pages of new regulations every year since the Hope vanished. Believe me as I work in the Mortgage Banking industry and it is overwhelming. Don’t believe me? Try this for size as was reported in The New American magazine this month from a survey on hours worked to job completed. The following I submit to you as a wake up call:

1) 6.7 million man hours to finish the Empire State building.

2) 7 million man hours to make 250,000 Toyota Camrys.

3) 220 million man hours to comply with the tax code annually and the worst of this is the same amount of time is required for something productive such as building every moving vehicle in the U.S. each year. Talk about waste.
4)10.9 million man hours to comply with Dodd-Frank rules for starters. Jackpot! The crown jewel of hucksterism.

Now this is insanity in its purest form. I know from experience Dodd-Frank helps no one and hurts/costs everyone. If you really want to feel better wait until Obamacare kicks in. That will put all else to shame. Try to see your MD after that. Good luck friends. That is the Titanic of regulatory insanity. Pray the Supremes have better judgement and save us from this tyranny and free business to do what they must do.

So now you know why we have the most sluggish post recession job growth in a century or so. Any talk to the contrary is really an attempt at deception. And no I do not blame the Republicans for trying to block this lunacy. I praise them but for a meager effort they put forth as the President has gotten everything he has asked for and then some. That is the problem. He did not know what to ask for.

The icing on the cake is that all this regulation costs us an absolute fortune. Figures by economists run as high as $2 Trillion annually. My apologies but I can’t get my head to accept any of this nonsense. Perhaps smaller sodas might be a good one, but who really knows.

So now Duud-Funk is imposing costs and tightening credit on business and all individuals which is synonymous with stepping on your blood vessels and stopping the blood flow. If anyone thinks it a good thing my suspicion is they are making money from it as it is harming far more than it helps.

I have to wonder is this what Mr. President wanted to begin with? All along? No I don’t think so. He is just surrounded by those who have no clue. I say Mr. President fire your staff and unleash the beast. A sure victory for you in November if you do. But time is waning my friend.
