Why So Much Hate And Anger? Or, The Tower Of Babel (Babble) Discourse.

I have always enjoyed a good debate both as a participant and as a witness. My god what happened to those days. We apparently no longer have the ability or the want to engage in honest debate. We are reduced to hearing uncivilized and in some instances sheer, vile rhetoric. Not a true statesmen as the word was intended is in sight and we also find ourselves awash with pundits and talking heads from all sides and invariably I find them tedious at best, vile and hostile at worse to listen to.

Anger seems to rule the day. Believe as I do or you are henceforth my enemy. No where is this more prevalent than in the politics of the day. Wild and oft times unsubstantiated rhetoric seems to pass for honest discourse and shame on us. No one seems to truly listen anymore. As best I can tell, the ideological blinders are on everyone.

The politicians, to the media talking heads and down to constituents are spouting facts which in many/most instances are party talking points without bothering to confirm the claims made, yet believing same. At the end of the day we are all speaking a different language. Have we finally become “The Tower of Babel”? Of course we have. Witness it daily on your TV set or local paper. But why all the anger?

I hear hateful rhetoric over disagreements on policy. I hear both sides terming the other as delusional. It can’t be both can it? My advice is to stop, think and listen very carefully. It is for our general good. I sense this is the end result of the breakdown and low level of people we entrust with power in public office at all levels. Fooled by clever speeches and pretty hair. These fiends have had a field day in the information age. They are not leaders friends but far from it. I find most to be power mad, self aggrandizing types whose lust for power and money allow for the worst leaders imaginable. And I speak for both sides of the aisle. Decent people dare not tread on this turf for fear of becoming consumed by it.

To say it is all unseemly is too soft. Repugnant is a more apt phrase. Vicious to the bone. Protect my seat of power at any cost. Blame game used and tossed around willy nilly. After  listening to these vermin, I think to myself how stupid do they think we are? Likely very much so as they stay in power and we degrade with each and every election cycle. It truly sickens me. Yet people seem preconditioned to believe anything spoken by a like minded individual whether true or not and  the facts be damned. “They just get in my way.”

And for the ideologically minded, your guy is as bad as my guy. No one seems to have a monopoly on the truth. The anointed ones think they are above it all and they seem to be doing just fine. For themselves that is. We are in a quandary and I wonder how and when this might change. The sooner it does, the better for this nation.

I stated we all speak a different language and this is certainly a viable proposition. But more importantly I feel that no one listens anymore if the argument does not fit their world vision or sensibilities. You are dismissed as naive, delusional and worse. How pedantic it all is. So where do we go from here. I suppose I can suggest Fox news haters watch Fox news. Or MSNBC haters watch MSNBC. But my instincts tell me there would be loads of smashed TV’s in the USA.

So it might be a bad idea. I notice with the people I routinely debate, if I throw in documented facts, they choose to ignore those facts and attack me personally. I don’t quite understand that mindset yet I see it routinely. We must keep trying and strive to bring out the best in all. We must get beyond sloganeering and settle on intellectual discourse. It can be done or from what I see, we will end up as those folks in The Tower of Babel.

U.S. Global Competitiveness Falls To #7 In The World. Ouch!

What a slap in the face fellow countrymen. The recently released Global competitiveness rankings do not bode well for the morale or world standing of what is in my opinion, the strongest economy known to mankind. Ever. As the accompanying charts will show we have fallen to number seven. In fact we are so accustomed to being number one, we have to ask “what happened”. For perspective see the 2007 chart depicting us as number one. We have been on the descent ever since.

Yet our weak kneed leaders go back and forth debating silly and useless issues designed to garner personal aggrandizement, divide us as a nation and pay absolutely no attention to the common issues which affect us all. Pandering, blow dried fools that they are, what should I expect. I expect a hell of a lot more. And so should you.

I suppose our first credit downgrade in U.S. history was not enough to wake up these primadonna’s. I guess $16 Trillion in charges to the yet to be born are of no concern. Ditto the depressionary feel of the country. Wake up you fools! Is there a leader amongst you all? I submit not a one. To busy vying for reelection. And enriching themselves.

But there is blame aplenty to go around. Pick your party, does not matter which. I am ashamed of the current crop of leaders and have been for about three decades. Why do we continue to elect these hucksters. Pretty words, zero substance. People seem to be easily fooled by the con men. It must stop people and now!

But you ask are the rankings fair? Probably not. Switzerland, a no doubt beautiful country what with the majestic mountain peaks, at the top? Debatable by any metric. Watches and chocolate. I love both. We are far more creative and involved in every industry the world knows. In fact we created them all. And excelled forever. Until now.

I suspect a lot has to do with how large and all powerful our central planners have become. Regulate this, don’t build by that bird nest, forget about all our oil. Permits for years just to open a small factory. Regulations by the tens of thousand to contend with daily. You bet this slows down progress as well as waste much time and money. In fact one would think our politicians who create this ever expanding maze want us to offshore our business. Too cynical? Ok fine, they are just stupid.

After all a business has a fiduciary obligation to it’s owners to maximize profits. If it takes two years to open a small factory, why not go to Hong Kong where for $75 you are permitted to start immediately. The EPA and the tax code certainly do not help either. In fact it is indisputable that they are a hindrance. You know for all our success, I have to give credit to the ingenuity of the American people for circumventing this lunacy and still being a powerhouse.

Of course the pols have convinced all that any problem we face is due to lack of regulation. Oh yes I buy that. If I have the brain of a rock. We are so over regulated it is comical. But yet people believe we are not. Perhaps their leaders have sold them a bill of goods or just flat out deceived them. As one in the mortgage industry, I can attest to the fact they we have been over regulated for 30 years. Anyone who states to the contrary is either naive or a liar. Yes I know they blame folks like me for the mortgage meltdown. Nothing could be further from the truth. But I have written on who is to blame for that mess in prior columns. Please refer to them if you seek enlightenment. And for heavens sake, stop listening to politicians. Remember the old saw, “you know a politician is lying when they open their mouth”.

My friends I believe what is needed to get us back on track and of course to number one, is the freedom’s which made us a great nation to begin with. We do build our business. They do not. First do no harm. Central planners destroy them by their very nature. Remove the parasite from the host (us) and the host will be just fine.

Chicago Kids Get The Middle Finger From Teachers. Let Em Eat Cake!

The next time I hear a Democratic flak/politician state “it’s for the children”, I will have no choice but to expel my lunch. Can we really believe these phonies ever again in light of the teachers strike in Chicago? Not I. I believe their true colors are shining through and for all to see. One can hope.

After all it is no secret that the Democratic party is owned by it’s largest contributors which not coincidentally are the teachers unions. Whose side are these charlatans on anyway? Obviously the side which gives them millions every year in campaign contributions. What do they get for this largesse? It seems whatever they want. Crony capitalism anyone?

So here we sit in the midst of a depression of sorts with the figures of 25 million people without jobs. And Chicago has offered its teachers a more than hefty 16% raise or approximately $400,000,000.00 over the next four years. Add this to the fact that they are already the 2nd highest paid teaching group in the nation with average income of $76,000.00 plus gold plated benefits which easily place them in the six figure category and of course places them in the top 10% of income earners. Not a bad deal for working nine months a year most would admit. I’ll take that job. Please. They are second only to New York City in income.

I suppose one might argue they are worth it. B.S. The results of these teachers is abysmal to say the least. According to the Dept. of Education, 79% of 8th graders do not read at grade level. And the graduation rate is equally poor. So do the teachers deserve this raise? Hell no. Where I come from if you do not deliver you do not get paid. Period. We don’t get raises for showing up.

But the irony lies in the fact that the key sticking point of the negotiation is part of an Obama administration directive on grading of said teachers. Mayor Rahm is on board as is the President but the union gives the middle finger to the kids. How dare we teachers have to sustain certain competency levels? Well teachers, in my field we must maintain certain levels each and every year or we are out.

What makes you so special? Marching down the streets bitter and angry as if you had been wronged. You are even rebelling against your patriarch and his form Chief of Staff. Irony indeed. Try plain old greed. Are any of you aware that all industries must meet certain requirements annually? Apparently not. Stop reading the Daily Worker and join the real world.

More importantly why not consider the young brains you are presumably teaching and molding. Your words say one thing but your actions cry out “let em eat cake”. I find the whole sordid mess repugnant. Have you no pride in your jobs. Why do you feel a sense of entitlement as you do at the expense of parents and taxpayers who have no such monopoly control over their respective incomes. You buy off a party and expect the spiff in return. I/we certainly can not do that.

I submit it is pure greed and any words about compassion are empty rhetoric used by the politicians you fund. In the meantime who suffers? Those precious children your bought and paid for monies proclaim to support. I mean really, you are fighting your own administration after all. If I were not so offended for the children, as a non Democrat I would be laughing. But you see I actually care about these kids. It is not a slogan for me. So enough of those 60’s slogans and pathetic placards. Get to work. The kids need qualified teachers. As you have been proven failures at this task, I suggest Obama step in and fire you all. I hear charter schools and other alternative choices run rings around you academically and the children thrive. I am sure parents would love that option.

But wait, you own a political party that blocks alternative choices at every turn. What happened to Pro-Choice? I assume that only applies to preschool kids.
